Background
Founded in 1947, Hal Leonard Corporation is today the world leader in the print music industry. Hal Leonard products are sold in 65 countries around the world through a large network of subsidiaries, joint-venture companies and distributors.
In Australia, Hal Leonard commenced distribution in 1975 through Rose Music Pty Ltd. In 1995, the distribution was changed to Print Music Australia, with whom Hal Leonard formed a joint-venture company in 1999, to form Hal Leonard Australia Pty Ltd. Since 1995, the company has experienced substantial growth, particularly in the last few years. A significant milestone for the company occurred in January 2002, when we commenced operations in our Music Licensing and Hire Department, handling the promotion and performance licensing of a wide catalogue of musicals and plays.
Print Music
Hal Leonard produces sheet music, songbooks, and method books for piano, voice and all instruments, as well as band and choral arrangements, music reference publications, accompaniment audio CDs, instructional videos and DVDs.
The company is the market leader in the technology area through the development of music instruction CD-ROMs, MIDI book/CD packages and performance software created specifically for electronic musical instruments.
Hal Leonard in Australia represents, in print, some of the world’s best known and respected publishers, artists, writers and arrangers, including: Cherry Lane Music Company, Walt Disney Music, EMI Music Publishing., Famous Music, Rondor Music, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Boosey & Hawkes and several more. We stock over 17,000 titles in our modern warehouse facilities in Cheltenham, Victoria and we can source thousands of back catalogue titles from Hal Leonard, USA on a special order basis.

Music Licensing and Hire
Hal Leonard Australia is proud to represent Music Theatre International of New York, Josef Weinberger Ltd. of London and Dramatists Play Service, Inc of New York for the administration of musicals and plays under their control in this territory. We also administer an extensive Hire Library of classical and contemporary works, proudly representing Boosey & Hawkes Ltd, Faber Music Ltd, Oxford University Press, Schott & Co, Universal Editions, Josef Weinberger Ltd, Glocken Verlag Ltd., BMG Ricordi and others.
After four years in the Music Licensing and Hire business, we have achieved substantial growth with the catalogues we represent. This is undoubtedly due to the calibre of our licensing staff, all of whom have a strong background in and deep knowledge of classical music and theatre. This enables them to provide informed advice to clients regarding the suitability of works for their particular resources, rather than acting as a mere booking agent. Our warehousing operation, developed over years of experience in the print music business, allows us to provide first class service in the handling of scripts and orchestral scores, both for hire and purchase.
